Ep. 104 · Chayei Sarah · 6 min · 2019-11-21

Thirst to do good

Avraham says "a morsel of bread" and then runs to fetch the best meat for three guests. Efron says "it's free," then names 400 shekel, and then wants the finest silver. The Gemara in Bava Metzia sums it up: tzaddikim say little and do a lot, and the wicked say a lot and do little. But why is the speaking part in the line at all, when doing is what counts? Rav Yeruchem sees a link between the two. It touches the good we all mean to do and never quite get to, and how the Chofetz Chaim answered a request.
