One comment from someone else, and a person who was strong for years suddenly has no appetite and no energy. Most of us have seen it, or lived it. Why does a single sentence do that?An idea Rabbi Asaf Prisman heard from Rav Boyer ties it to a small oddity in Parshas Vaera. The Torah says Bnei Yisrael couldn't listen to Moshe because of "shortness of breath and hard work," when you would expect the order to be reversed. The idea then follows a man in the camps who was cheerful when others couldn't understand how, and who was sad on the eve of Sukkos.
