Ep. 138 · Tisha B'Av · 13 min · 2020-07-23

Getting into the Tisha B'Av Mindset

Rashi says Bnei Yisrael gave Moshe the wrong answer. He offered judges to share his burden, they called it a good idea, and Rashi faults them for it. Why is agreeing a failing? And how could Moshe's cry of "Eicha, how can I carry you alone" begin a chain that ended with the Eicha we read on Tisha B'Av? The answer reaches anyone who has lost a din Torah or wanted a neighbor's house. Then a mother in Poland, whose only son was taken by the army, spends the night on a station bench waiting for him. The Chofetz Chaim took nearly an hour telling it before Tisha B'Av.
