Ep. 177 · Eikev · 13 min · 2021-07-29

Awareness, the point of life

In Parshas Eikev, Chazal read "mah Hashem sho'el" as "meah," a hundred, and learn that we should say a hundred brachos a day. It sounds like a word play. Is there a real link between a pasuk about yiras Hashem and a daily count? And why were the Aseres HaDibros carved into stone, when the rest of the Torah was written in ink? The Ramban on the meaning of a bris is the starting point for both. A gift on a surgeon's wall, with words carved into it, brings the idea into an ordinary workday.
