Disliking Gifts Soneh Matanos Yichyeh

"One who hates gifts will live," says Mishlei. But what if the person giving a gift is the one who benefits? A Gemara in Kiddushin says that when an important person accepts a present, the giver receives enjoyment worth real money. Does that change whether accepting it counts as taking a gift at all? A dispute in Bava Basra, between partners splitting a field that is too small to divide, seems to point toward an answer. Rabbi Asaf Prisman lays out his own question, tests it against that case, and leaves one part of it open.
