Ep. 39 · Sukkos · 12 min · 2018-09-23

Uniqueness of Sukkos

Sukkos is the only Yom Tov the davening calls "the time of our happiness." Every Yom Tov is supposed to bring simchah, so what makes this one different? Rav Yitzchak Hutner points to the way Sukkos sits in two groups at once, and Rav Emanuel Bernstein connects it to the number of korbanos on Sukkos. A tzaddik arrives in town, and a man comes to mock him. He tells a parable about a king, a precious gold watch and the one he trusted to guard it. The watch matters more than anyone in the room realizes.
