The Power of Prayer

When Yaakov davens before meeting Esav, he asks Hashem to save him "from my brother, from Esav." Why say both, when the Torah never wastes a word? The Beis HaLevi finds two separate prayers hiding in that phrase, and shows why they come in that order. It points to what a parent should worry about most. A father in a hospital far from home, with his only daughter fading, makes a promise to Hashem in an empty shul. What became of that promise is the story.
