Objectively realizing Hashem's Will

Most of us have pushed a "no" until it sounded like a "yes." Bilaam did exactly that. Yet in Parshas Balak he seems to follow Hashem's instructions at every step, so why do Chazal and Rashi read every line of his story in the worst light? The Mishna in Pirkei Avos sets him against Avraham, and Rashi on the Akeidah shows what Avraham heard when Hashem's words could be taken two ways. A son begging his father to let him stay out late is a picture of how easily we cloud what Hashem wants from us.
